At Pala Diamond Co., we invest in state-of-the-art technology to ensure the quality of our diamonds. We screen 100% of our diamonds as they enter and leave our sorting office, protecting your reputation.
Our technology and processes have been developed and refined over years to deliver exceptional quality control. We don’t just protect you from synthetic diamonds and poor-quality cuts, we save you time and excess costs.
We prioritise exceptional quality control
We are proud of our exceptional quality control. Clients have told us of the huge difference it makes to the manufacturing process. Our aim is to help jewellery manufacturers avoid the inconsistency and poor quality control that can be found in the diamond trade.
Without good quality control, manufacturers face…
– An inefficient manufacturing process
– A diamond setter who loses time sorting and matching diamonds
– Poorly matched diamonds, meaning your jewellery ranges may vary in quality and size, even when you order the same specifications each time
– Overpaying for hidden weight, poor quality and sizes you don’t need
– More paperwork, time and costs reconciling delivery notes, supplier accounts and returning rejected stones to the supplier
– Increased costs
– Longer lead times for your clients
And what’s more, you could be…
– Overselling the quality of your stones
– Potentially selling chipped, broken or recycled old diamonds lacking in quality, cut and polish
– Unintentionally selling lab-grown diamonds as 100% naturally mined diamonds
When it comes to safeguarding your reputation, quality control matters.
Why Pala Diamonds is different
So, what makes Pala Diamonds different from other suppliers? Well, it’s not just about having technology – it’s the methods we apply, and continuously review, to improve our processes and quality control.
– Round diamond sieves
We sell parcels of melee diamonds in the quantities, sizes and cuts that you need. We make sure they fit your specifications before they leave us, so that your diamond setter can save time sorting. To do this, we rely on precise round diamond sieves.
Our diamond sieves are precision engineered and made in Belgium, making them the most accurate sieves on the diamond market, globally. They allow for a precision tolerance of 0.025mm (twenty-five thousandths of a millimetre).
We use either the traditional steel standard or the new titanium standard, depending on your preference. We ensure synergy and alignment; any tolerance fluctuations between our sorting office and your manufacturing facility are alleviated to an accuracy of +/-0.005mm through rigorous A/B testing.
We service and check sieve plates and electronic gauges regularly and replace those that are out by just 0.01mm. And, to maintain controls at every level, our assortments are spot checked using Presidium electronic gemstone gauges.
By aligning our operation with yours, you have confidence that every diamond you receive is calibrated. Your diamonds will be immediately ready for setting, saving you time and giving you uniformity across your range. Once aligned, future supplies will be swifter, with more efficient communications and less paperwork for everyone.
– Electronic gemstone gauges
Our electronic gemstone gauge measures gem dimensions to ensure accuracy in precision tolerance. It’s another stage in eliminating the potential for human error and means one less task for your diamond setters.
– HRD D-Scope diamond microscope
We prefer the HRD D-Scope for absolute quality assurance and diamond examination. This powerful, market-leading diamond microscope is an indispensable analytical tool.
The HRD D-Scope has a high-quality stereo 3D zoom allowing for an undistorted zoom up to 50x magnification. Its sophisticated illumination adapts to the particulars of diamond grading, and patented technology allows us to manipulate the position of the diamond, ensuring an almost obstruction-free view.
With the HRD D-Scope, we can examine the clarity, finished grade, fluorescence and laser inscription to verify certified diamonds. A vital part of our quality control, it means we guarantee that our diamonds meet the very high standards aligned with GIA and HRD laboratories, even when the diamond itself is below the carat weight required for certification. It also gives you confidence that you are buying the certified stone you purchased.
As an integral part of our own quality control standards, we verify all laser inscriptions before sale or upon return, at no extra cost.
Fluorescence testing
We thoroughly test batches of melee diamonds to ensure our assortments have a fair balance of nil-faint fluorescence and are not flooded with high fluorescence as part of our standard, in-house control process.
If you’ve ordered a specific fluorescence control such as nil or nil-faint, we have the appropriate technology in-house:
– System Eickhorst® UV Colorscope – accurate grading of fluorescence to a GIA standard using long wave UV 366nm lamps. Darkfield attesting only.
– System Eickhorst UV Scope – table top grading of fluorescence of melee diamonds to a GIA standard also using long wave UV lamps. Equipped with a flat black filter, and even weak fluorescence is clearly visible under darkfield.
– HRD D Scope – fluorescence illumination under darkfield.
While we consider fluorescence testing to be a standard part of our testing at no added cost, we can provide stricter testing below 0.20ct if required, giving you the potential to upsell a finer and rarer finished piece of jewellery.
Diamond counting
An essential piece of technology for Pala Diamonds, our diamond counting machine can accurately count up to 180,000 stones per hour between 0.5mm-4mm, eliminating human error and using proprietary 360-degree image processing technology to count small objects in real-time.
This offers the following benefits:
- You don’t need to spend time recounting. Our tried and tested machine is highly accurate from 0.70mm upwards, and swiftly counts the number of pieces per size in the thousands.
- You no longer have to worry about miscounting or loss through mishandling, reducing overheads.
- Used as part of our processing service, it allows you to keep minimal overstock of sizes on site, as we can deliver exact quantities swiftly, freeing up your cash flow.
Keeping your diamonds 100% natural
Pala Diamonds has a zero-tolerance policy for undisclosed lab-grown diamonds, synthetics and simulants.
No reputable supplier or jewellery manufacturer wants to risk mis-selling lab-grown diamonds as natural diamonds. One poor review could have a significant impact on your business’ reputation. However, lab-grown diamonds are flooding the market, and very few suppliers have the expensive laboratory-grade equipment required to authenticate them.
Unintentionally using synthetic diamonds instead of natural diamonds means that you are paying up to 95% more than their value and risk legal ramifications for mis-selling them in your jewellery.
Such is the concern across the industry that there has been an increasing trend in customers asking for third-party verification from qualified valuers and valuation bodies, such as Safeguard.
We use state-of-the-art technology from De Beers, De Beers SynthDetectTM and De Beers AMS2, and our machines are calibrated monthly to ensure the accuracy of results. We screen 100% of the diamonds entering and leaving our sorting office, protecting your reputation.
